G2 Hospital Reception area – Queen Alexandra Hospital

Carillion Plc contracted Ken Rand Partners for the refurbishment of the G2 hospital reception area in Queen Alexandra Hospital. After months of hard work, we are overwhelmed to finally see the G2 reception in situ. This project required a high level of efficiency and management due to the number of contractors involved with the installation. From Ward Matrons and Carillion site managers all the way to flooring specialists and fitters our team worked hard to ensure the smooth running of the refurbishment. Our designers worked closely with the members of staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital, welcoming them into partnership to create their vision of the Dementia wards. Throughout the project, the client was keen to reflect the incredible location of the hospital within the interior design of the hospital reception area; having such an icon building like the Spinnaker tower to work with, this was a challenge that the Ken Rand team were excited to accept. We developed graphics for the reception wall picturing the skyline of Portsmouth with the Spinnaker tower. These graphics emphasise the unique seafront location of the hospital. For the reception desks we installed enough desk area to provide working space for multiple people working at the same time. Behind the desks is enough room to move around easily and access the file trolleys and cupboards. A lower part in the front panels allows for wheelchair access, and complies with the Disability Discrimination Act. The final hospital reception area creates a statement, fresh, new look that the hospital desired. The blue and white colours chosen open up the reception area increasing light, making patients and visitors feel welcome to approach the desk, while the unique graphic provides a level of functionality as well as personality to the individual ward. It was a great project with a fantastic client, thank you to all those involved.
